ANTIBES, France — At the Cannes Film Festival, attention turns Thursday to the glitzy amfAR gala, which aims to raise money for AIDS research.
Queen Latifah will host the lavish party, which will raise millions by auctioning off unique items and experiences. Co-chairs of the evening include Angela Bassett, Robert De Niro and Scarlett Johansson. Halsey, Gladys Knight, Adam Lambert and Bebe Rexha are expected to perform at the 29th edition.
The almost two-week Cannes red carpets provide many outstanding fashion moments. This year’s edition did not disappoint: Helen Mirren wore blue hair on opening night, Johansson and other stars of Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ looked glamorous, and Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss and other celebrities from ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ ” premiere.
Stars attending the nearby Cannes festival often attend the gala. De Niro was last year’s featured guest, and fundraising items included a lunch with the Oscar winner.
Last year, the amfAR Gala Cannes raised $245 million for the group’s life-saving AIDS research programs.
