Guardians, Mets close out series with split twin bill

THE Guardians, who entered Saturday with the third fewest runs in baseball, squandered leads of 5-0, 7-3 and 9-7 on Friday night. Pete Alonso hit a game-tying grand slam in the seventh inning Metswho had four singles in the 10th inning against Cleveland’s Emmanuel Clase.

Scherzer earned the win after giving up one run over five innings Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 8-2 last Sunday. Verlander took the loss on Tuesday, giving up six runs in five innings as New York lost to the Rays 8-5.

Bibee never opposed the Mets. Bieber took the loss in his start against New York on August 20, 2019, allowing four runs (two earned) over six innings in a 9-2 loss.

Scherzer is 9-5 with a 4.25 ERA in 20 starts against Cleveland. Verlander is 22-24 with a 4.53 ERA in 54 starts Guardians
