Lily-Rose Depp and Sam Levinson defend nudity
The HBO production has been dogged by controversy for months — especially after a Rolling Stone article, which interviewed 13 cast and crew members, claimed the “extreme” show was a “rape fantasy.”
“It was like sexual torture porn,” one source told the publication. And another echoed: “It makes no sense. They’re just trying to see how much of a reaction they can get.”
The first ratings for the show, which is currently at 15% Rotten tomatoes, of course, few refute these reports. “I think it extends to all aspects of your life, not just your professional life. I think the way you dress, for example, is constantly saying something to you, or saying something to the people you’re around, or expressing yourself in some way .”
“I also think that the occasional nudity of the character is a physical reflection of the nudity that we see in him emotionally,” added the 23-year-old.
Sam, who faced a lot criticism because of the nudity in his show Euphoria before saying, “It’s funny, I think sometimes things that could be revolutionary are taken too far.”
“I think we live in a very sexualized world,” he continued. “We see it in pop music, and that in some ways it reflects the nadir of the internet. I think with this show and working with Lily, we’ve had a lot of discussions about who she is as a person, who Jocelyn is, and what she feels, what she fishes, who she plays with.”
“Two things happen when you have a character who has such a strong sense of self and such a strong sense of sexuality – you end up underestimating her because you’re not quite sure why she’s doing this, why she’s wearing this… And at the same time, that’s what appeals to her. the people, it attracts the audience, it attracts the imagination” said. “I think it’s very true, which is what almost every pop star is doing these days.”
