Matty Healy refers to the backlash after Taylor Swift’s split
Matty Healy appeared to be addressing the recent online backlash at a 1975 show in Vienna earlier this week.
Much of the online criticism of Matty in recent weeks stems from his appearance The Adam Friedland Show in February, where he participated in several racist and misogynistic jokes. The episode has since been removed from Apple and Spotify.
The criticism has resurfaced amid Matty’s relationship with Taylor Swift. News broke that the couple had split after about a month of dating on Monday – the same day the gig took place.
“It had some really nice signs on the front that said, ‘They love you,’ a fan video from the programs of the event. “That was very, very kind of you. I’m sure it means…” she trails off.
“As you know, I’m not online much at the moment and I’m sure people have called me a scumbag relentlessly,” he continued.
“I wasn’t online but I was with my boys. And honestly, as much as I appreciate that, it’s so beautiful, and thank you. But I don’t need it because I have them.”
Other reports of Matty’s stage antics continued after the split, such as his dangling from hip flasks. same show. However the hip flask a little has been part of the stage show for months now (and includes a bottle of wine). As Matty said at a 1975 concert last month: “What is it all about? Is it honest? Will it ever be answered? We’ll be ignoring all these questions and more for the next hour.”
