Melissa McCarthy once had a transformative experience on set
Melissa McCarthy is getting honest about her worst experience on set – and frankly, it sounds pretty bad.
While Melissa wouldn’t name any names, she says there was one person working on the project who made it a nightmare for everyone.
“I once worked for someone who had such a volatile, hostile streak that it made me physically ill,” Melissa told UK. Guardian newspaper.
She continued: “My eyes are swollen. I’ve absorbed all this craziness.”
And not only was he affected by this person, but everyone else as well; Melissa explained that people were often “crying” and “obviously so upset” while working.
“I think that’s why the manipulation worked, because if it got to me, this person fired the people I loved, which silenced me,” she said. “It was very effective.”
Melissa said she finally realized she couldn’t go through treatment any longer and decided to speak up.
“Then one day I was like, ‘he’s going to stop today!’ I just told them, ‘he’s going to stop, he’s going to stop.’ And now I know I’m never going to be quiet again,” Melissa said.
Melissa says that now, through her production company On the Day, she is very particular about who she works with.
She explained that she and husband Ben Falcone do a “crazy check” to see if someone is really nice.
“You know, we were so shocked and grateful to be able to build our own little world, so we thought, ‘We have to build what we’ve always talked about, where everyone has an opinion and everyone is really nice.’ Melissa said.
He continued, “It’ll do a lot better without screamers or crazy egos running amok. Why risk destroying that?”
