Nick Cannon talks about his kids being Nepo dolls
Nick Cannon has his fingers crossed that his kids don’t follow in his footsteps.
The 12-year-old dad admits it would be easy for his kids to lean into their “nepo baby” status – but hopes they’ll be a little more challenging.
“Out of all my kids, I think if they want to have fun, that’s fine, but it’s almost easy,” Nick said in an interview. Fun tonight.
He continued, “I want you to do something that challenges you, step outside the box to see the effort and the persistence and all those things, because they’re a nepo baby.”
While Nick realizes there are “advantages” to having a nepo baby and it can “naturally” trickle down to his kids, he says he’d rather see them play sports.
“That’s why I love … seeing my kids play sports because it has nothing to do with it. It’s literally how much you work, how hard you work, that’s how you become successful in this field.” he explained.
Nick added: “They get to learn all these cool principles through having fun with their friends. I’m hoping for some athletes. I’m hoping to be the dad on the sidelines somewhere cheering them on.”
But at the end of the day, Nick says, “If they want to be accountants or horsemen,” he doesn’t care.
And while he doesn’t really want them to follow in his footsteps professionally, he does hope they share his passions, such as music.
Nick explained that he wishes he had learned “theory and musicianship” at a very young age, so he now “gifts them” by taking them to music lessons.
“I think, ‘Look, you’re going to get the lessons. You will know how to do anything you want. You can impress girls or make a career out of it, Nick said.
And if everything works out, Nick admits he’s been “thinking” about starting a family band.
“I put everyone on the bus,” he joked. “Honestly though, I’m thinking about it because music is in my blood and that’s where we find our joy in our household, so I’d love it.”
