P Matt Araiza to work out with Jets
Punter Matt Araiza will work with the New York Jets on Wednesday, ESPN reported citing Araiza’s agent
Araiza’s rookie season came to an abrupt end last August before it even began. He won the Buffalo wrestling job but was released by the Bills two days after a young woman filed a civil lawsuit accusing Araiza and two former San Diego State teammates of gang-raping her when she was 17.
The district attorney’s office declined to file criminal charges last December, and San Diego State officials said last week that the investigation found no evidence against Araiza.
Yahoo Sports reported on May 9 that a review of the transcripts of the case shows that Araiza, now 23, was not present at the San Diego residence when the woman said the assault occurred on Oct. 15, 2021.
The civil litigation initiated by the woman is ongoing.
Araiza, who won the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top college player in 2021, was drafted by the Bills with the first pick of the sixth round in the 2022 draft. In his final season at San Diego State, he set an NCAA record with a 51.19-yard average.
