Prosecutor: Some of the 6 missing Mexican women have been found dead

A Mexican prosecutor says there is evidence that some of the six women who disappeared on March 7 have been found dead.

MEXICO CITY — A Mexican prosecutor said Thursday that there is evidence that some of the six women who disappeared on March 7 have been found dead.

Carlos Zamarripa, the attorney general of the violence-hit state of Guanajuato, said that “unfortunately, we found indications that some of them were killed.”

The women, who were probably traveling together, disappeared on the outskirts of Celaya, Guanajuato.

Authorities issued search notices for the six women on March 9 and said more than a week ago that they hoped to find them alive.

Zamarripa said investigators are still examining the scene to determine the number and identity of the dead.

The industrial and agricultural center of Guanajuato has been Mexico’s most violent state for years, with the Jalisco cartel waging a turf war against local gangs, including the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, which is apparently backed by the much larger Sinaloa cartel.
