The bomb killed 3 people, including a provincial governor, in Afghanistan
A Taliban-appointed provincial governor and two others were killed by a bomb, police said

ISLAMABAD — A Taliban-appointed provincial governor and two others were killed Thursday in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, a Taliban police spokesman said.
Mohammad Asif Waziri, a spokesman for the Taliban’s local police chief, said the blast killed Daud Muzmal and two others who were staying at the governor’s office in Mazar-e Sharif, the capital of Balkh province.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief government spokesman, said an investigation had begun but gave no further details.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Islamic State’s regional affiliate, known as IS in Khorasan Province, is one of the Taliban’s main rivals. The militant group has stepped up its attacks in Afghanistan since taking over the country in August 2021. Among the targets were Taliban patrols and members of Afghanistan’s Shiite minority.
